In 2003 Liam founded The Mini Morris Company to bring English Folk Traditions to education and community arts settings.  Over the last 11 years, Mini Morris has delivered hundreds of successful workshop and project to schools and communities and continue to bring positive experiences of traditional culture to everyone in an accessible way.

Here is a sample of some of the most popular workshops on offer.  It is also possible to tailor workshops and project to the specific needs of clients.


Infants and Nursery

Mixed songs, music and dance: a very fun session with lots of songs with actions, music making and dancing for young children


Primary School

Border Morris Dancing: A session to introduce children to the basics of this energetic form of Morris dancing.  By the end of the workshop young people will be able to perform a simple stick dance and with have discovered more about the background of this style of English Traditional Dance.


Maypole Dancing:  A staple of folk dance in schools for over 130 years, this session teaches a number of different weaving patterns as well as the basics of maypole dancing.  Portable Maypole provided as part of the workshop.


Sea shanties and work songs: Introducing the idea of traditional worksongs, this session look at the jobs the songs were used for and how we can create new songs in this style.  Includes lots of singing and acting out of jobs.


Barn Dances old and new:  Learning some old social dances and making some new ones. This session is often combined with an after school barn dance for families.


Upper Primary, Secondary Schools and adults

English Longsword Dancing:  Learning figures from this traditional dance form from the North of England and looking at the patterns and mathematical nature of the movements. This dance uses group working without any physical contact between participants. Wooden swords provided

Barn Dance band:  Bringing together musicians to play simple folk tunes for dancing.  This workshop is suitable for all instruments and most abilities.



Talks on folk traditions, group or individual lessons for melodeon, concertina.  Group workshops for Longsword, Cotswolds and border Morris, playing dance music.


Liam has also been involved in some larger projects including EFDSS/Heritage Lottery Fund, Full English Project


Traditional Tune Session:  Musicians of all ages and abilities are welcome to come along on join in playing mostly English Traditional dance tunes, listeners also very welcome. It is usually held on the third Saturday of every month, 2pm to 4pm.  Admission is free. Museum of Lincolnshire Life, Burton Road, Lincoln, LN1 3LY


Lincoln Shanty Blast: Singers and listeners welcome to join in with the choruses or lead a sea song or shanty.  It is usually held on the first Saturday of every month, 12noon to 2pm.  Admission is free. Museum of Lincolnshire Life, Burton Road, Lincoln, LN1 3LY


Bishop’s Morris Longsword Dancers: Friendly family orientated group who practice and perform traditional longsword dances.  Practice held alternate Tuesdays 7:30pm to 9pm at IMPart 39b High Street, Lincoln, LN5 8AS (behind Musson’s Tailors shop) (£1 subs towards the cost of the hall)
